Shri Mijito Vinito, Consul General
Shri Miijto Vinito is career diplomat. He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 2010 and has served in diverse roles both in India and abroad. He served in the Republic of Korea from 2012-2017 and was the Commercial Officer in charge of bilateral trade and economic relations between India and Korea.
From 2020, he served in the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in New York. He was a member of the Indian team at the UN Security Council when India was an elected member from 2020-2022, and in charge of all issues relating to Central and Horn of Africa, including sanctions, and working methods of the UNSC. He also served as the Head of Chancery. After the Security Council, he took charge of matters pertaining to the Second Committee in the UN till August 2023.
During his tenure at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi, he briefly served in the West Asia North Africa Division in 2012, and as Deputy Secretary (Foreign Service Personnel & Cadre) in Administration Division from 2017-2020.
Shri Mijito Vinito hails from Kohima, the capital of the state of Nagaland in North-east India. He belongs to the Sumi Naga tribe, and is also fluent in Hindi and Korean. He is married and has two children. His hobbies are reading, traveling, trekking/hiking, playing sports in general, particularly tennis and basketball.
